SONIC SCULPTURE: Melody of Light
The artifact is a sculpture in the form of a volumetric vertical sound wave, made of acrylic material with a light-scattering coating. The base, in the form of a mirror disc made of polished metal, contains an interactive system with motion sensors and a high-quality BOSE Soundlink II speaker system. Depending on the activity of the audience, the sculpture reproduces a unique sound scale and color palette.
The sculpture has 9 control modes: by pressing a button, one of 24 compositions of famous works by P.I. Tchaikovsky from the collections "The Four Seasons" and the Children's Album, or an interactive mode of additional playback of musical phrases in three registers of the piano is activated, in the key of the composition being played at the moment. Three registers of the piano: low, medium, high. Each corresponds to its own sensor in a specific area of the sculpture.
Modulation includes control of three parameters of a musical piece: organ sound, cathedral sound (echo), and the brightness of the piano tone. Each parameter is controlled by a separate sensor. Harmonic connections in Tchaikovsky's compositions have visualization modes corresponding to the color scale.
The Melody of Light was developed specifically for the Tchaikovsky Museum as part of the Art Residence at the Art & Science Institute of ITMO University.
