SONICOLOGY

innovative international initiative
on the formation of harmonious sonic aesthetics in urban environments
through the use of latest technologies

SONIC RESEARCH

Within the framework of the initiative,
numerous research and development of technological projects
for the harmonization of urban environments are conducted,
events are being organized to promote interactive technologies,
as well as educational programs to raise awareness of sonic ecology.

A series of interactive sculptures, harmonizing public spaces
through sound and light, were developed.

Sonic sculpture forms new visual structures for public spaces that change the notion of musical interfaces.

These applications can be both entertaining and educational, as well as therapeutic.

SONIC SCULPTURE

An interactive object in which the sound and LED system is integrated with a set of sensors that read the movements of people around it.

The data obtained are organized according to the Pythagorean principles and generate harmonic oscillations of sound and light.

Thus, the audience controls the audio-visual space of the sculpture,
immersing themselves in the process of interaction with the object and creating a collective and whole musical composition.

Stella is sensitive to the slightest movement of the audience, creating a harmonious sounic and color palette, the so-called audio visual portrait.

It rather reminds us of ancient oriental practices, like tai chi and wushu, while it is a self-sufficient musical instrument.

The real-time sensor system analyzes the space within the artifact; these real-time data are organized according to the Pythagorean principles and generate a harmonic structure / palette in the form of a sequencing of the sound tone and its color equivalent on the scale of the electromagnetic wave, stimulating the synaesthetic sensations in the audience, which determines its healing qualities.

2
An interactive musical artifact in the form of 3 dimensional sound wave.

Active interaction with the artifact creates a sense of rotation of the mirror disk - the base of the sculpture, which enhances the effect of immersion in the audio-visual space of the WAVE.

Sensitive system of motion sensors captures the activity of spectators and "responds" with a harmonious sound composition and changing color scale of the sculpture.

Although WAVE has a complete design, it is possible to create custom forms reflecting any word, phrases, and even names, thereby visualizing sound in solid matter.

The form of the sculpture is made of acrylic glass "Quinn lumina cast" and "Satinice WH10", an acrylic pipe "Plexiglas Satin Ice clear 0D010 DF". The base consists of a high-quality sound system BOSE Soundlink II , a motion sensor system, over 1000 multicolored LED pixels and a custom software package.

3
An interactive multimedia artifact,
representing a sculpture of parametric design.

Opus allows viewers to control the sonic space without tactile contact. Everything happens by the simple movement of the hands.

Depending on the activity of the audience the sculpture reproduces a unique sonic scale and a pulsating radiance, imperceptibly harmonizing the surrounding sonic environment.

The pulsating glow of the sculpture that accompanies the interaction is the answer to the personal message of everyone who comes into contact with Opus.

The sensor system in real-time analyzes the space within the artifact, the data is organized according to the Pythagorean principles and generates harmonic oscillations. Its poetic name Opus owes to a special parametric design based on the data of the musical work.

In other words, it was this kind of sculpture that was created not by chance, a full-fledged classical musical work was visualized in each bend of the opus.

OPUS - the first prototype of interactive music sculpture, created in collaboration with the architect Vladimir Antoshenkov and industrial designer Pavel Pankratov within the residence of Art & Science at the University ITMO.

In 2019, the Tchaikovsky State Museum entered the program of digitalization of museums near Moscow. Thanks to this, the cultural institution will have new multimedia objects. One of them - the sound sculpture "Melody of Light" has already been produced and installed by specialists of the SONICOLOGY firm from St. Petersburg.

The installation consists of a 2-meter vertical LED rod, an exclusive design that resembles a sound wave, and a base equipped with motion sensors and a high-quality speaker system. Sound sculpture is a multimedia artifact that integrates a sound and LED system with a set of sensors that read the movements and movements of people around it.

Depending on the activity of the audience, the sculpture reproduces a unique sound scale and color palette. In other words: the audience of the exposition and their activity near the artifact control the audio-visual space of the sculpture, immersing themselves in the process of interaction with the object and creating a collective and integral musical composition.

The musical sculpture has already been loaded with works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His "Children's Album" and "The Seasons".

"This unique object was developed in St. Petersburg specifically for the Museum-Reserve of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and has no analogues not only in Russia, but also in the world. I have been working on this idea for more than ten years, starting with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, but its implementation has already begun here, in Russia, with the support of the Department of Lighting Design at ITMO University. The first version (beta) of such an artifact is in the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology (China) and the Museum of Optics in St. Petersburg, "says the author of the idea, design, media artist Taras Mashtalir.

"The program of digitalization of museums near Moscow is part of the national project" Culture ", but for our visitors this message is deciphered much easier and more understandable: multimedia objects attract young people to museums. They do not replace and will never replace artifacts - but they tell about the treasures of the museum in modern language. It is important for us that visitors to the Tchaikovsky Museum, even the youngest ones, having received new information about the work of the great composer, will be able to immediately immerse themselves in the gaming environment and use this unique stele to express their thoughts on musical themes, "said Narmin Shiralieva, Minister of Culture of the Moscow Region.

EVENTS
