SNOW QUEEN

interactive installation created for the legendary film studio Soyuzmultfilm and became part of multimedia entertainment and educational center in Russia - Soyuzmultpark at VDNKh -
a unique playground for children and adults.
The Snow Queen has received numerous international awards and has been translated into six foreign languages.
SONIC SCULPTURE : CRYSTAL

Introducing a new series of interactive sculptures - the crystals of the Snow Queen.

Based on the legendary Soviet cartoon, the sculptures immerse the visitor in the magical world of light and harmonic sounds controlled by movements.

The visitor enters the kingdom of the Snow Queen, where he sees a hall with columns, created from numerous parametric designed pieces associated with ice. There are three tall crystals in the hall, emitting enchanting light and crystal sounds, singing melodies to each other as the visitor moves around each crystal.

The visitor's task is to create such a melodic composition that will remind Kai of his carefree childhood with Gerda and melt the lenses in his heart.

The Sonic Crystal is a multimedia artifact, which is an interactive sculpture that integrates a sound and LED system with a set of sensors that read the movements of people around it.

It has the ability of contactless interaction with the visitor - the movement of hands and body in general around the sculpture - modulates the light and sound composition of the sculptures.

The crystal works as a musical instrument that allows the visitor to try himself as a maestro and create his own musical composition.

Depending on the activity of the audience, the sculpture reproduces a unique sound palette and color scheme.

The name "Gerda" came from Scandinavia, the meaning of the name is the protector of people.

SCENARIO

When approaching one of the crystals, the original voice of the Snow Queen from the legendary cartoon greets the visitor, accompanied by two other crystals' atmospheric electronic sounds.

Each sculpture has three sensors located at the base, at each corner of the tetrahedron, which generate three different sound tones that combine to create a harmonic sound microclimate unique to each sculpture.

In turn, all three sonic sculptures create a complex composition consisting of nine instruments.

Up to three people can interact with one sculpture within a radius of 1 to 3 meters.
Thus, up to nine performers can participate in the creation of a harmonic composition, just like classical musicians in an orchestra.

The Snow Queen was voiced by Soviet theater and film actress Maria Ivanovna Babanova

TECHNOLOGY

To implement the installation, the most advanced technologies were used: AI, Smart LED, Artnet, RTX technology, motion capture, generative graphics systems, tracking technology, various motion capture and positioning systems in space, interactive multi-zone media systems, positioned multichannel and generative sound systems, machine vision.

The parametric design decorative metal structure consists of over 400 powder coated aluminum parts.

Crystal is made of acrylic material with a light-spreading coating, inside is a vertical LED rod of two meters high.

The base, in the form of a tetrahedron made of polished metal, includes interactive system with motion sensors and an acoustic system Bose.

Interactive software is developed on the basis of Open CV (open computer vision) - a technology for detecting, tracking and classifying objects. The technology of image sensors is associated with the processing of real-time video data, used to control sound and light, implemented by hardware or software.

Multimedia Center Soyuzmultpark , VDNKh, Moscow, Russia
The Snow Queen interactive installation was designed and implemented specifically for this center. At the moment, the center is unique not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the world. The multimedia entertainment and development center Soyuzmultpark is a "place of power" in areas related to animation and creativity in any of its manifestations. Guests of the center will be able to interactively get acquainted with the richest collection of the studio's characters.
The structure of the two-storey center includes 18 interactive attractions, with the help of which the guests of the Soyuzmultpark will be able to directly interact with their favorite cartoon heroes. One of them is the installation The Snow Queen, based on the legendary Soviet cartoon from 1957. It immerses the visitor in a magical world of light and harmonious sounds, controlled by the slightest movements of the visitor.
